Breaux Greer is a former American track and field athlete who competed as a javelin thrower in the Olympics and other track and field events. Breaux Greer has taken part in three Olympic competitions altogether. Additionally, this athlete twice made it to the finals.

Breaux Greer: Profession, Career

In 1995, he made his professional debut in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Championships.

He then participated in the 1996 Olympic trials and finished third. With a record of 79.98m, he was placed fourth overall in the United States.

This javelin thrower consequently failed to achieve Olympic qualification on their first attempt.

He had a much better year the following year because he finished second at the NCAA Championships.

At the USA Championships, this athlete finished as the second runner-up. In addition, he participated in the 1998-1999 World University Games.

Greer, unfortunately, sustained a wrist ailment throughout the season. He did, however, record 241-4 when he returned to the World University Games in 1999.

He successfully completed the Olympic trials and competed in the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

After taking part in the Olympics, he held the top spot in the US for eight straight years, from 2000 to 2007.

He also held the seventh-best position in the world during this time.

Breaux set numerous records in these years. He earned gold at the 2001 USA Outdoor Championships and silver at the 2001 Goodwill Games.

Likewise, in 2003, he took home the bronze medal from the Pan American Games. He subsequently won the 2004 World Athletics Final gold medal.

His successes came as he finished in the top three of many tournaments.

The Mt. SAC Relays, Diamond League, USA Outdoor Championships, World Championships, and Olympic Games all featured this athlete.

He set a national record at the 2007 USA Outdoor Championships with 91.29 meters.

Furthermore, despite having retired more than ten years ago, Breaux still maintains the record for the longest throw in the USA.

Only two athletes from northeast Louisiana, Breaux, and John Pennel have participated in the Olympics in the track and field events.

In the late 1960s, John Pennel set a pole vaulting world record with a height of 5.44 meters, which is not particularly high by today’s standards.

Greer established a record of 262-2, or 79.92 meters, in his debut Olympic competition, the 2000 Sydney Games. He finished the competition in 12th position as a result.

His second Olympic campaign got off to a strong start with a record-breaking throw of 87.25 m/286-3.

Later, he broke the American record with a throw of 87.39 meters, however, the throw tore a ligament in his knee.

He delayed having surgery nevertheless because he wanted to take part in the Olympics.

His leg was hurt, therefore he only managed a score of 74.36 in the opening throw at the Olympics. He finished the competition in 12th place.

Due to an injury, Greer could only qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in 17th place. He was therefore disqualified.

On the basis of USATF regulations, the Track and Field chair subsequently added him to the USA team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

According to the rule, if no other athlete is removed from the team, an injured athlete who has attained Olympic “A” standard may be chosen.

Sadly, he had to be taken off the roster since, even nine months after the operation, he still had not entirely recovered.
