In 1989, Jodi and her future husband, Timothy Warren Van Leer, met at a college. When they got married, their three kids, Samantha, Kyle, and Jake, were born. The one traumatic event in Kyle’s life occurred when she was six years old and was told she had middle ear cancer.

The author is currently a resident of New Hampshire. She rises at five in the morning and joins Joan Collison, to whom she devoted her book Leaving Time, for a jog (2014). The woman then goes back home, where her husband makes her breakfast before she spends an hour answering emails.

Up to 4 p.m., the author creates and edits fresh stories. Timothy used to frequently watch the kids while the mother wrote; the kids are now grownups. By the way, Picoult’s daughter co-wrote Between the Lines (2012).
