Martin Rabbett: Life and Profession
Richard and Martin began their connection in 1977 when Martin was somewhat unknown and had only completed a few projects in comparison to Richard’s success. Their collaboration subsequently led to leading parts in several films, including “Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold,” in which they portrayed brothers Allan and Robeson.
The film is based on the novel “Allan Quatermain” by H. Rider Haggard and serves as the sequel to “King Solomon’s Mines.” Sharon Stone portrayed the character Jesse Huston in the film. Martin acted mostly as Chamberlain’s manager, utilizing his entertainment business connections to assist his partner in securing major jobs.
Chamberlain, Richard, the husband

Richard attended Beverly Hills High School while growing up in Beverly Hills, California. After completing high school, he enrolled at Pomona College to further his education.
During this time, he developed a tremendous interest in acting and founded the Company of Angels theater troupe. In the 1950s, he appeared on an episode of “Riverboat” as a Lieutenant in the United States Army. In 1961, his popularity began to rise after he was cast as the title character in the television series “Dr. Kildare.”
During his time on the show, he established himself as a formidable lead character and demonstrated his musical talent by creating several hits that were included on the show.
Five years later, he appeared alongside Mary Tyler Moore in the Broadway musical “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” However, the performance ended after four previews. His subsequent work, an adaption of “Portrait of a Lady,” marked the beginning of his more serious roles. In 1969, he was placed with Katharine Hepburn in “The Madwoman of Chaillot.” In the same year, he also performed the title role in “Hamlet.”

Richard Chamberlain’s Success and Subsequent Profession
Throughout the 1970s, Chamberlain had a steady stream of high-profile roles, becoming the leading man in numerous films.
These include “The Lady Is Not for Burning,” “The Towering Inferno,” and “The Count of Monte Cristo.” He also appeared on television in miniseries like “Shogun,” “The Thorn Birds,” and “Centennial.” In the 1988 film “The Bourne Identity,” he was the first actor to portray Jason Bourne, and he also starred in “King Solomon’s Mines.”
In 1989, the French women’s magazine Nous Deux revealed that he was homosexual in an article.
However, he did not offer any commentary on the topic.
As he largely resided in Hawaii with Rabbett for the next few years, his workload diminished. Although he had taken a long sabbatical from larger roles, he continued to accept occasional acting jobs in television films. In the 2000s, he returned to form by starring in “Scrooge: The Musical” as the titular character. He also appeared in “Nip/Tuck” and “Desperate Housewives” as a guest star. He portrayed Archie Leach in the third season of “Leverage” and also appeared in two episodes of “Chuck.”
His most recent works include “Nightmare Cinema” and “Twin Peaks.”
Personal Life
Before Martin’s relationship with Richard, his partner was romantically linked with actor Wesley Eure in the early 1970s. Due to the lack of laws supporting gay marriage in the United States, the couple traveled to Hawaii in 1986, where they established a civil union and remained for almost two decades. He was also formally adopted so he could have a vote in his husband’s future estate.
In 2010, Richard indicated a desire to devote the rest of his life to acting, but he no longer had the same Hollywood connections he had in the past. His partner hired a new manager who reintroduced him to the group. Due to the overwhelming amount of work, he decided to leave Rabbett in Hawaii and return to California. Many media sources interpreted this as a breakup, however, the actor stated that it was only temporary. Chamberlain has been a staunch proponent of LGBT rights since his comeback.
