Howard Allan Stern was born on January 12, 1954, in Queens, New York City, under the sign of Capricorn. His parents, Ben and Ray Stern reared him along with his older sister Ellen in a Jewish household. His ancestry is Austrian, Hungarian, and Polish. Howard attended Washington-Rose Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior-Senior High School, and South Side High School, graduating in 1972.

He attended Hebrew school as well. Howard attended Boston University and earned a degree before receiving a first-class radio-telephone operator license from the Radio Engineering Institute of Electronics in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It led him to the WNTN radio station in Newton, Massachusetts, where he remained until 1976 when he graduated with honors.

Career Beginnings

Howard Stern pursued his profession after graduating from college by working for rock music radio stations such as WRNW in Briarcliff Manor, New York, and WWWW in Washington, D.C., among others. Then, he was employed by WNBC in New York City, where he worked from 1982 to 1985.
