Gilligan was born at the height of tension in Vietnam, which led to the United States participation and deployment of soldiers in the nation during the conflict that would become known as the Vietnam War. Not much is known about her ancestry, although she later distanced herself from her birth name by adopting Gilligan Stillwater.

She had known Billy for a very long time, and their relationship was long-lasting. Initially, the pair was not interested in marriage. Since life is brief, Billy’s motto was to experience everything before anything else. Later, he decided that they should give marriage a go, and neither of them appear to have any regrets. Since their marriage, the couple has not had any children, and it does not appear that they will any time soon. There are speculations that he has a child, which, if genuine, could be from a previous relationship.

The couple frequently spends time together, and she is frequently spotted traveling with her husband. She is typically there in the background during his performances.

Billy grew raised in Houston, Texas, and his father, an orchestra conductor and concert pianist, influenced his musical interests. Billy saw an Elvis Presley concert at the age of five, and two years later accompanied his father to a BB King recording session.

Initially, he learned to play percussion because he enjoyed the music. Later, his father sent him to New York City to study the guitar; at age 13, he handled his first electric guitar. Jimmy Reed was one of his guitar influences during this period.

After completing high school, he enrolled in an art school in Hollywood, where he spent most of his free time working with bands. Together with Roky Erickson, he formed the psychedelic band The Moving Sidewalks at the age of 18.

They released the album “Flash,” and he also penned the hit “99th Floor,” which led to him opening for The Jimi Hendrix Experience on their first U.S. tour. This resulted in a close bond with the guitarist who instructed him more on the instrument till his passing in 1970. Billy formed the blues-rock band ZZ Top in 1969, which would propel him to international recognition.

ZZ Top and Additional Works

ZZ Top quickly rose to prominence in the music industry, gaining a reputation as some of the finest blues musicians in the nation.
