Jet Li is the stage name of 57-year-old Li Lianjie who is a retired Wushu champion and martial artist who is Chinese and Singaporean. Jet Li’s birthday is April 26, 1963.
Along with acting in movies, he has made a reputation for himself in the martial arts world. When his Wushu skill was first discovered at school at the young age of 8, his career in martial arts officially began. He was trained by Li Junfeng and Wu Bin. After his father passed away when Li was two, his family lived in poverty for the rest of his life. His coach Wu Bin gave the family food because they couldn’t afford the things Li needed for his health as a wushu champion. He was a national coach while he was just a teenager, and by the time he was 20, he had already been in one film.
He appeared in the critically acclaimed, blockbuster movie “Hero,” as well as the “Once Upon a Time in China” series. The youngest of five children, Jet Li is. Jet Li lost his father when he was just 2 years old. He started mastering the martial art of wushu at the age of eight. In 1982, Li made his film debut in China with the release of Shaolin Temple. His significant performances include the major roles in Zang Yimou’s 2002 film Hero and the 1994 epic martial arts film Fist of Legends.
Li’s first non-Chinese film, Lethal Weapon 4, featured him as a villain. Li’s first starring role in Hollywood was in the year 2000’s Romeo Must Die, where he played the part of Han Sing. He rose to fame internationally and appeared in French films such as Kiss and Dragon in 2001 and Unleash in 2005.
Li returned to China in 2007 to take part in the historical battle movie The Warlords. He appeared in The Forbidden Kingdom alongside Jackie Chan.
In the next live-action movie Mulan, which will be released in 2020, Li has been cast as the Emperor of China.
