After his parents divorced, he was mostly raised by his mother and got into a lot of problems. After this, professional baseball star Willie Mays urged him to attempt to do sports and stay out of trouble. He played football for the school’s squad while he was a student at Galileo High School. He had bad grades but was a great athlete. He continued playing football at the City College of San Francisco after graduating.

He showed his talent and got much interest from prominent universities, but he decided on USC because he was a supporter of the school’s squad. During that time, he rose to prominence and finished second in the Heisman Trophy race in his junior year before winning it in his senior year. He was selected by the Buffalo Bills of the American Football League (AFL), and he played for them until 1977 when an injury ended his season. Later, he transferred to the San Francisco 49ers, where he played for one season before quitting.

The Notable Murder Trial

Following his retirement, Simpson began an acting career. He later had an affair with Nicole Brown, whom he would later marry after divorcing Whitley. OJ’s reputation as an abusive person caused a lot of problems in the marriage. The couple attempted reconciliation but failed in 1992 when they filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. Obsessive behavior both during and after their relationship was well-known for the two. His ex-wife and a friend were found fatally stabbed in 1994 outside of her Los Angeles condo.

He was immediately named as a suspect and even attempted to flee from the police. His arrest and trial—dubbed the “Trial of the Century” because of his notoriety and the amount of attention it garnered from throughout the world—were both highly reported events. The jury ultimately returned a finding of not guilty, which caused controversy because the majority still thought he was guilty. This was not the end of his problems, though; he was eventually charged with robbery and given a 33-year sentence, but he was released on parole in 2017 after serving nearly nine years.
