On September 1, 1922, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Margaret Yvonne Middleton, a stunning and renowned actor, was born. Carlo was given the name “Peggy” by her mother in honor of the silent-film actress “Baby Peggy.” She is the daughter of William Shelto Middleton and Marie De Carlo. She competed in the Miss Venice beauty contest in 1940 and came in second, then finished sixth in Miss California. She received an audition call after winning the Miss Venice contest. She began her career with a musical theater performance, which she never abandoned.
Her first on-screen appearance was in the 1941 Columbia Pictures B movie “Harvard, Here I Come” as an uncredited bathing beauty. She started working with Paramount Pictures in 1942 and had a brief role in “Luck Jordan.” She has performed with the production company in uncredited roles in films including “Here Come the Waves” and “Bring the Girls,” among others.
She later tried out for the role of the exotic beauty girl in the Technicolor film “Salome, Where She Danced” at Universal. She subsequently agreed to a lengthy contract with the project. She was given the part of “Sephora” in Cecil B. DeMille’s epic film “The Ten Commandments” in 1954.
