After her breakup with Rick, Selena placed the blame on Mandy

Ricardo Gomez and Amanda Cornett welcomed Selena into the world in Grand Prairie, Texas.

High school sweethearts, Selena’s Mexican father, and Italian mother gave birth to Selena when Mandy was 16 years old.

When Selena was five years old, Rick and Mandy divorced after getting married. After the divorce, Selena was primarily raised by her mother, and she held Mandy responsible.

Selena stated on an E! Entertainment special, “I blamed my mom a lot [for the divorce] because I wanted a family so bad.

I wanted to have my mom and dad together. I remember just being angry with my mom. I still feel really bad about that.”

Amanda worked three jobs occasionally while making every effort to help Selena. Although the charges upset her, she believed that one day her daughter would comprehend her predicament. She remarked:

I could only respond by saying, “I’m sorry; you’ll understand someday,” when Selena would rage and vent at me.

Selena is now thankful for how her mother reared her, proving Cornett’s prediction to be accurate.

In 2012, Selena admitted to Glamour that she strives to be like her mother in everything she does. The vocalist of Same Old Love said:

“It’s because of [my mom] that I can do things on my own. I like being professional. I like showing up on time. I like being good to people, and I know that I’m reflecting her at the end of the day.

At Hooters, Rick used Selena to pick up waitresses

While Rick was largely absent from Selena’s life, Amanda reared her. He has several old pictures of the two, indicating that he knew Selena when she was younger.

Selena also disclosed that when Rick went to Hooters to watch basketball, he used her to pick up waiters.

Selena claimed to have developed a “thing” with Rick in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. She uttered:

“When I was seven, my dad would go to Hooters to watch [San Antonio] Spurs games, but he started noticing that when I would come, with my little pigtails, all the waitresses would be like, ‘Hey!’ So he ended up spending time with me but with all those cute girls coming over. And that became our thing.”

Rick wedded Sarah Gomez in 2012, while Mandy wed Brian Teefey in 2006

In late 2011, Selena revealed that Mandy was expecting a kid. Mandy wed Brian Teefey in 2006.

Unfortunately, Mandy miscarried in December 2011 and lost Scarlett. Mandy revealed the miscarriage in a lengthy Instagram post in December 2017. She penned:

“Thank you to all the fans who honored our Scarlett yesterday. Dec 17th will never be the same, but we decide to celebrate her by writing her letters on red balloons and releasing them.

Now the 17th is intertwined with the wrap of S2. So, she was there in spirit as always. A moms love for their children is pretty fierce.”

Fortunately for Mandy, she conceived again and delivered Gracie Elliot Teefey on June 12, 2013. Selena and Gracie are very close, and Selena frequently posts images of Gracie on Instagram.

Rick and Sara Gomez wed in 2012, and on June 24, 2014, their daughter Victoria “Tori” Gomez was born. Selena gets along well with both her dad and stepmother Sarah.

In addition, Selena has a stepbrother thanks to Sarah’s previous union.

Selena and her mother have fought in the public eye

Despite their closeness, Selena and her mother have had numerous arguments. It was said in 2014 that Selena abruptly sacked her mother from her position as manager.

Then Mandy said it was better that she was no longer Selena’s manager because she never anticipated managing her for the rest of her career.

Later, when the #MeToo movement gained momentum, famous people started to disassociate themselves from individuals like Woody Allen.

Selena didn’t speak out about her relationship with Woody Allen, though. Mandy claimed that despite her best efforts, Selena continued to collaborate with Allen. She wrote in response to a follower on Instagram:

“Sorry, No one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click. Her team is amazing people.

There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.”

Mandy was also against Selena and Justin Beiber’s reconnection in late 2017. She reportedly had to go to the hospital because she was so enraged about the relationship.

Selena and Justin consequently took a break to allow Mandy some space to adjust to their relationship. According to a source who spoke with US Weekly:

“Her mom was her rock when she was having her health complications. Justin and Selena decided to take a break to give her family more time to heal and take in the idea of her and Justin being a couple again.”
